During a defensive struggle on Sunday, the Denver Broncos clinched a 13-11 win over the winless New York Jets. Quarterback Bo Nix connected on a first-quarter touchdown pass and kicker Wil Lutz kicked the game-winning go-ahead field goal to seal the ugly win.
Despite recording nine sacks versus Jets quarterback Justin Fields, the Broncos found themselves trailing 11-10 following giving up a safety in the third quarter. Interestingly, the Jets could only produce just 82 total net yards throughout the entire game.
Nix, who went 19 of 30 attempts for 174 yards, led a decisive 12-play, 65-yard drive that culminated in Lutz's short kick with approximately five minutes left.
Despite their horrendous offensive display, the Jets maintained possession with a chance to score a potential victory. But Fields was tackled on fourth down from the Denver 44 after head coach Aaron Glenn opted to attempt the conversion rather than calling on kicker Nick Folk for a difficult kick.
Fields had difficulties throughout, completing just 9 of 17 passes for 45 yards. The Jets finished with negative ten passing yards, the fewest in any contest since 1998.
"Our passing game was completely absent," Glenn commented after the game.
The running back exceeded 200 yards from scrimmage for the consecutive week and rookie Ryan Fitzgerald kicked a game-winning field goal as time expired to give the Carolina Panthers a 30-27 win over the Dallas Cowboys.
The Los Angeles Rams ended the first half with a goal-line stand and then quarterback Matthew Stafford led them to two scores to begin the third quarter in their 17-3 victory over the Baltimore Ravens.
The quarterback threw two touchdown passes and the running back scored the decisive touchdown with 4:32 left, giving the Indianapolis Colts a 31-27 win over the Arizona Cardinals.
The quarterback threw scoring throws to Jaxon Smith-Njigba and another target, and Seattle dominated the trenches on their way to a comfortable victory.
The veteran quarterback threw for 235 yards and two scores, and the Pittsburgh Steelers had little trouble in their decisive win over the Cleveland Browns.
Justin Herbert evaded the pass rush and found with Ladd McConkey for a long catch-and-run in the closing seconds, setting up the kicker's game-winning kick to secure the Los Angeles Chargers a 29-27 win.
Drake Maye threw for 261 yards and three scores as the road New England Patriots beat the New Orleans Saints 25-19.
