We're in 2025, and the marketing drive for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds seem determined to recall the classic Sega vs. Nintendo dynamic. An recent promotional video for the blue speedster's title seemingly features grainy footage of the competing franchise, leveraging it to suggest that Nintendo's offering underuses its open-world framework.
Critiquing the Competition
"Everyone's familiar with the famous franchise, it's great, we don't need to feature it," the commercial starts. "Consider you could blast through and drive on a higher tier?" The video then goes on to emphasize several of the game's key aspects, such as deep car personalization and cross-platform multiplayer.
"Alternatively, perhaps you prefer to drive around on the open road?" the voiceover poses, exuding skepticism.
Previous Events of Competition
Although this isn't the opening salvo that the developers behind Sega's title have targeted the competing series, it is definitely the clearest they have acted regarding the head-to-head battle. The advertisement also recreates a throwback advertisement for the classic Sega console that informed fans about the system's "high-speed" power. Previously, Sega highlighted its hardware advantage by featuring a speeding vehicle tearing around a track. Toward the end, it compared the Nintendo's console to an old RV that had the original kart racer displayed on a tube screen fastened to the rear of the RV hastily attached.
Launch Information
The game arrives next week on the 25th of September for Switch, Sony's previous-gen system, PS5, PC, Xbox One, and Microsoft's newest system. But, fans securing copies ahead of time can play it early... unless they are on Switch. Welp.
